Project of Heart e-Book and Teacher Guide!

We are happy to introduce a comprehensive 107-page curriculum package on reconciliation, canoe pedagogy, and Coast Salish war canoes.  This educational resource examines the rich culture & technology in Coast Salish territory.  It emphasizes reconciliation and Indigenous research, the principles of reciprocity and relevance, and fosters a deeper understanding of First Nation’s culture.  As part of a British Columbia Teacher Federation (BCTF) Teacher Inquiry Project (TIP) 6 Mission Public School Teachers journeyed across 2 years to learn more about canoe pedagogy.

Through thoughtful research practices, like the 5 R’s of Indigenous Research (Kirkness & Barnhart, 1991), the BC teachers gained insights into the interconnectedness of community, culture, land, laws, and generations.  This curriculum aims to bridge gaps in knowledge and promote respectful, meaningful and relevant connections with Stó:lō families and our shared histories
